An Update on the McGill Summer Institute and COVID-19 Impact


The management team of the McGill Summer Institute in Infectious Diseases and Global Health and McGill University are monitoring the latest travel advisories from the Government of Canada and WHO as they relate to COVID-19.


At this time we feel it is in the best interest of our participants, faculty, and community to cancel all courses in the McGill Summer Institute in Infectious Diseases and Global Health 2020.


All guests who have paid registration fees for 2020 will receive a full refund by April 3. If you don’t see the credit on your statement by then, please reach out to


The Summer Institute will be back and better than ever in summer 2021. Participants who applied in 2020 and who are interested in attending in 2021 will have to re-apply when the courses open in fall 2020.

Q: Can my approved application be deferred until next year?

A: We definitely hope to see all of you at the 2021 Summer Institute but you will need to resubmit an application as there may be changes with course offerings and registration fees. We expect registration to open in the fall of 2020. Past applicants will receive an email invitation when registration opens for 2021.


Q: Will you refund my registration fees?

A: Yes, registration fees will be reimbursed in full by April 3rd. Please note that we can only refund the credit card account used at the time of payment.


Q: What should I do if I do not hear back from you about my refund?

A: Be sure to check the email account that you used on your application and check your junk/spam folders. If you did not receive a receipt for your refund please email us


Q: Can I defer my payment for 2021?

A: Due to possible changes in course offerings and registration fees we are unable to defer payments to 2021.


Q: Can I defer my registration fee waiver to next year?

A: All recipients of a fee waiver for 2020 will be contacted by email when registration opens in the fall. You will be asked to resubmit an application and confirm your attendance by January 15. If we do not hear back from you by January 15 you will need to reapply for a fee waiver.


Q: When can I register for next year?

A: We expect registration to open in the fall 2020. Past applicants will be sent an invitation by email. You can also check the website for updates and be sure to sign-up for our newsletter so that we can keep you informed.


Q: Will you be offering the 2020 courses online?

A: Unfortunately, due to the number of Faculty members and timing of the event we are unable to offer the courses online. We are currently exploring new ways for the Global Health Community to come together so that the networking and knowledge transfer that makes the Summer Institute a success continues in 2020.
